First Genre: Blues

1. What is Blues?

Most of you have probably heard about the Music genre Blues. But many people don't know how it sounds like. In the next posts, I' ll tell you what it is. Blues came from "get the blue" and mean get sorrow. To understand blues, you should know the blues scale before. It has a certain form.

2. Origins of Blues

The origin of blues begins with the slave trade. When the black people arrived in America, they sang their own songs to keep the traditions. These types of songs were "work songs"(first video). The slaves sang it on the cotton fields. A kind of work song are the field hollers. Besides the Work songs, the slaves had Christian music. They're Christian music named Spirituals (third video). It is more like western music.
